Cycling Canada (CC) has existed for over 100 years and was created to promote cycling in our country. In 2003 the CC formed the ‘Long Term Athlete Development’ (LTAD) working group to study and improve the pathway through the sport of cycling. In 2005 this LTAD model was ratified by the federal, provincial and territorial ministers of sport, becoming the athlete development model and system of philosophy and sport development in Canada.
Next Level Riding Ltd will be using this model as a way to deliver effective and relevant programs to all athletes on their journey through the sport; with a focus on supporting lifelong physical activity.
Physical and Skill Development
At this age it is the window of opportunity for athletes to discover and develop their talents in the sport of Mountain Biking. It’s likely that a child between these ages has been in the sport for approximately 3 – 6 years.
In this age category Next Level Riding will focus on building the athlete towards training including an introduction to racing. We will focus on the following:-
- Fitness development
- Speed and Power and strength
- Advanced mountain bike skills
- Training plans and nutrition
- Introduction to competition
Of course not everyone wants to compete and no one is expected to, however the programs in the age category will assist those looking to improve their skills and to build a solid understanding of what it means to be active for life.
