Cycling Canada (CC) has existed for over 100 years and was created to promote cycling in our country. In 2003 the CC formed the ‘Long Term Athlete Development’ (LTAD) working group to study and improve the pathway through the sport of cycling. In 2005 this LTAD model was ratified by the federal, provincial and territorial ministers of sport, becoming the athlete development model and system of philosophy and sport development in Canada.
Next Level Riding Ltd will be using this model as a way to deliver effective and relevant programs to all athletes on their journey through the sport; with a focus on supporting lifelong physical activity.
Developing Cycling Literacy
Between the ages of 8 to 11 it is likely that a child will have somewhere from 1 – 5 years of cycling experience. They may simply enjoy riding their bike for fun, or perhaps they’re interested in competing at some level?
In the programs offered by Next Level Riding, we will focus on Developing their Cycling literacy, which includes:
- fundamental sport skills
- speed, power and endurance through fun and games,
- and the concept of warming upon and cooling down for sport.
They will be introduced to racing, including the rules and etiquette of the sport, and lifestyle and nutrition choices, including the importance of rest and recovery.
We offer small groups to maximize the learning with different offerings throughout the year, including weekly training programs and Spring and Summer Camps.
