If you have a little mountain biker in your life that’s tired of keeping their wheels on the ground and as a parent are finding it hard to keep up with them, then keep reading….. If your child is comfortable on their Mountain bike, loves riding technical trails and also wants to progress their skills on Drops, Jumps, learn wheelies, stoppies and ride Black Diamond trails, then this is the group for you. If your child is new to mountain biking then we recommend taking a youth private or private group lesson first.
Monthly blocks available (March and June are 3 nights only)
Runs between 4 PM and 6 PM every Thursday
The program is for those aged between 8 and 11 who are keen and eager to ride their bikes in all weather. Those taking part will have an interest in learning and progressing their skills, excited to be on a bike and looking to improve and have fun in a supportive and positive environment.
All riders must have a basic grasp of mountain bike riding and be able to control their bike safely on loose and rough terrain.
The group will consist of Experienced Beginner* to Intermediate Riders with the intention of progressing to a more advanced level of riding; which will include the development of Drops and Jumps.
Content: The program will include instruction on all 6 skills of mountain biking based on the PMBIA teaching model. Instruction includes basic body position, through braking, use of gears to advanced pressure control and timing to develop the riders trail awareness, climbing, descending, corners, drops and jumps.
Location: We will begin on Mount Tzouhalem but may change the location throughout the program between Mount Tzouhalem and Maple Mountain.
Equipment: It is important for the participant to have a good quality mountain bike. The terrain we ride is challenging and the bike will require hydraulic disc brakes for safety reasons. Hard tail mountain bikes are suitable, but full suspension is a nice upgrade that will help students progress unhindered.
All bikes MUST be fully serviced by a professional bike store prior to taking part and their upkeep must be maintained. Trailside maintenance is available for emergency situations, but consistently adjusting bikes on the trail detracts from the entire groups enjoyment.
Spaces are limited.
Drop ins may be authorized on a case by case request at $35 + GST per session.
NOTE: Please be sure to check the terms and conditions at check out. (If COVID changes things I will either offer credit for future lessons or be willing to discuss a refund for lessons not taken)
*What is an experienced beginner?
An experienced beginner is a rider that is comfortable riding single track trails. The Rider is comfortable riding over roots and rocks and up most smoove terrain hills. The experience beginner has Basic control skills Consolidated and walks that bike less than they ride it. If you’re unsure as to the level of your child’s abilities, please call us to discuss and we will find a suitable program.
